| Letter from Chair - Annual Report 2009 |
Letter from ChairDear Friends, As I look back over Fiscal Year 2009, fulfilling the mission of The Foodbank is reaffirmed. Visit any neighborhood in Montgomery, Greene or Preble County and you can see the signs of a great recession. Foreclosure signs, boarded-up buildings and shuttered businesses have defined a new landscape. Our service area is experiencing some of the highest unemployment rates throughout this great State. It’s no wonder The Foodbank distributed twenty eight percent more food in the last twenty four months. I am especially proud to say that The Foodbank has been able to meet the demand and feed the hungry, thanks to you, our donors and supporters. Many of you increased your giving and many of you gave for the first time. All of you gave and by giving you promised to feed the hungry of this community through your gifts of funds and food. You all understand that food is the most basic of human needs. Thanks to you, The Foodbank expanded its reach into the community. Two additional trucks were acquired to pick-up food from our retail partners, thereby ensuring our neighbors have access to more protein-rich food like beef, poultry and pork. More fresh produce was donated this year than any other year, again giving nutritious food to some of our community’s most vulnerable. In this Annual Report we will give you the information that you need to continue to make sound decisions regarding your giving. I think you will see that The Foodbank works extremely hard to be excellent stewards of your donations. With your ongoing support The Foodbank will continue to meet the growing needs of our community. We will reach the hungry in our community and offer them access to the healthiest and most nutritious food The Foodbank has available. Without your contributions countless children, seniors and individuals may go hungry. Thank you for your donations. Whether large or small, all contributions are important. Please continue your fight against hunger by visiting our website today at www.thefoodbankdayton.org to make your secure donation. Sincerely, In 2009 The Foodbank provided the equivalent of 5,199,126 meals to the hungry in our community. |
