METLIFE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO THE FOODBANK, INC.BOOSTS FUNDING DURING HUNGER ACTION MONTHDayton, Ohio – September 3, 2010 – MetLife Foundation today announced a $20,000 grant to The Foodbank, Inc. The grant, one of twelve awarded nationally, will help the food bank respond to growing needs in the communities it serves. “Food banks and their partners play a critical role in meeting the needs of communities’ most vulnerable residents – children, older adults, and the economically disadvantaged,” said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation. “We are pleased to support The Foodbank, Inc., which is making a significant contribution to community health and well-being.” The Foodbank, Inc. is located in Dayton, and annually distributes five million pounds of food to member agencies that operate 100 feeding programs throughout Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties. “What a fitting time to receive this generous gift as we enter Hunger Action Month,” stated Burma Thomas, CEO of The Foodbank. “This boost in funding will most definitely help us to keep up with the rising demand for emergency food assistance as so many people in our community continue to struggle to meet their most basic needs.” The Foodbank’s distribution of food has increased 70% over the last three years. “We certainly appreciate the commitment and support of MetLife Foundation,” said Thomas.
