National Association of Letter Carriers and Local Residents Stamp Out Hunger

Over 130,000 Pounds of Food Donated May 10

Dayton, May 20, 2008 – On Saturday, May 10, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) carried extra loads. Not only were they delivering mail as usual, but they were also picking up non-perishable food donations left by residents on their route. For all of the Letter Carriers’ hard work, The Foodbank was rewarded with a donation of over 130,000 pounds of food.

“At a time when our resources are low, and the local demand is reaching an all time high, this is 130,000 pounds of food that is desperately needed,” stated Burma Rai, The Foodbank CEO. “We thank the community for giving, and the Letter Carriers for organizing this impressive food drive each year.”

“Stamp Out Hunger” started in 1992, and is the largest single day food drive in the nation. The food collected in Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties stays in the area to serve The Foodbank’s 99 member programs.
