No Yolk! Local Egg Producers Donate 75,000 Eggs to the FoodbankDayton, April 1, 2010 - 2,700 dozen eggs to arrive on April 2 - For the third year, Weaver Brothers and Ft. Recovery Equity are helping to fill the tables and Easter baskets of nearly 6,300 local families this spring. Both farms combined have donated more than 75,000 eggs to The Foodbank. The eggs have a retail value of approximately $11,000. Weaver Brothers will deliver their donation of 2,700 dozen eggs to The Foodbank on Friday, April 2 at 9:00am. State representatives Clayton Luckie and Peggy Lehner will be on site to witness this eggstraordinary show of generosity by members of the Ohio Poultry Association. “This gift from Weaver Brothers and Ft. Recovery Equity is an incredible opportunity for our food bank to make a difference during the Easter season.” said Linda Roepken, Associate Director of The Foodbank. “The availability of wholesome, nutritious eggs is critically important for families in our community” Roepken said. The food bank currently directs food to more than 100 local food pantries, soup kitchens and other hunger relief providers in Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties. “We are proud to offer our help and support when our community needs it more than ever,” said Jerry Knapke, operations manager of Ft. Recovery Equity. The farm is located in Ft. Recovery, Ohio. In addition to Weaver Brothers and Ft. Recovery Equity’s contribution, seven other Ohio egg producers are making egg donations this Easter season to the 12 Ohio foodbanks that are part of the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks (OASHF). The total egg donation statewide is 101,000 dozen, or more than one million eggs. The Ohio contribution compliments a national initiative being conducted by the United Egg Producers and Feeding America that will provide more than 11 million eggs to food banks nationwide.
