The Foodbank Receives Egg Donation From Ohio's Egg IndustryLocal egg producer donates 65,000 eggsDayton, March 11, 2008 - Ft. Recovery Equity is helping to fill the tables and Easter baskets of 5,400 local families this spring. Ft. Recovery Equity donated 65,000 eggs to The Foodbank. The eggs have a retail value of approximately $10,000. “This gift from Ft. Recovery Equity is an extraordinary opportunity for our food bank to make a difference during the Easter season.” said Burma Rai, CEO of The Foodbank, Inc. “The availability of wholesome, safe eggs is critically important for families in our community.” Rai said that the food bank currently directs food to more than 90 local food pantries, soup kitchens and other hunger relief providers in Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties. “Our company is honored to help Ohioans who are less fortunate,” said Jerry Knapke, operations manager of Ft. Recovery Equity. The farm is located in Ft. Recovery, Ohio. In addition to Ft. Recovery Equity’s contribution, five other Ohio egg producers are making egg donations this Easter season to the 12 Ohio food banks that are part of America’s Second Harvest. The total egg donation statewide is 90,000 dozen, or more than one million eggs. The statewide donation, which has an estimated retail value of more than $157,000, is one of several joint efforts that the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks (OASHF) and Ohio’s egg industry have partnered on in the past seven years. This particular contribution also is part of a national effort by the United Egg Producers and America’s Second Harvest – a partnership that has generated donations across the country that exceed 12 million eggs. |
