| What We Do |
What We DoThe Foodbank acquires, warehouses and distributes food supplies to a network of pantries, community kitchens, shelters and other charitable programs, all of which support the health and development of needy individuals. The Foodbank is a member of America's Second Harvest - "The Nation's Food Bank Network." We are a private, nonprofit organization supported by generous individuals, corporations and foundations. In addition The Foodbank receives funding from the Montgomery County Human Services Levy, and is a United Way Partner Agency. The America's Second Harvest Network produced "Hunger in America 2006," a comprehensive profile of the incidence and nature of hunger and food insecurity in the U.S. The results of Hunger in America 2006 should be discomforting. It is difficult to understand how people living in this land of plenty can have to make decisions between paying for food or other household necessities. It is a troubling thought that children and seniors, in this country, may have to go without the most basic need - the need for food - strictly due to a lack resources. Hunger in America 2006 tells the stories of more than 25 million Americans-including 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors-who receive emergency food assistance each year from America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network of charitable agencies. The Foodbank was among 156 agencies who voluntarily participated in this eye-opening study. Information was gathered from interviews with clients at our network agencies in Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties. |
